This day seemed like a dream. When my daughter first told me about G’ma’s party, I didn’t imagine I would be able to go. I decided to put it out there to the Universe and a way came up.
I arrived at the party just a little bit early and as I drove up I was excited to see much of the family already there. Before I knew it… the guest of honor had arrived.
It was such a blessing that Grans brother and her sister Polly could both make it for the party. It was probably the best gift ever and if you were to ask Gran I believe she would tell you so.
Another wonderful surprise for her birthday party was that Aunt Margaret could make it. She is my grandfathers sister, I believe she is the only one of his siblings that is still living. Needless to say her presence was a blessing.
So just by those three being there you might say my gran had gotten three of the best presents ever, before she even got in the door at her party.
Walking into the party room was an amazing site. My grandmother has three living children my mom, my Aunt Mary and My Uncle Calvin. All three were there and I know that made gran happy. I also know that she missed her son Bill. Uncle Bill passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack a few years ago. My Gran still talks about him a lot and she says a mother is suppose to die before her children. Thankfully Uncle Bill’s spirit was with us and it shined like a diamond in the eyes of his sons Greg and Bruce.
Gran has 9 grand children and 8 of us where there Donna and Danny, Greg and Bruce, Me and my brother Anthony, and Kandy and Kelli Jo. Our cousin Lenora was missed.
The room was filled with great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. We proudly have 5 generations in our family.
Arriving just a little bit late was my mom’s first cousin JR. Jr is about the age my grandfather was when I was about 2-3 years old. When Jr walked in the door, I just started to cry. Tears filled my eyes and they just seemed to flow like a river. JR is the exact mirror image of my grandfather, he looks more like Grandpa than Grandpa’s own children look like him. So at that moment I felt like I was 3 years old looking at my grandpa. I cried. It was very healing for me to hug JR’s neck.
I think this was the best party I have ever been to. So much of my family and extended family were there. Much of my family stays in touch with me via FB and my blog, and it was wonderful seeing them in person for a change. More importantly it was good for my gran to get to see everyone together in one place.
I don’t know exactly how much time my Gran has left on this earth, but one thing I know for sure..She has made such an impact on my life. She truly has nothing but love in her heart for everyone. I have never heard her say a bad word about anyone. I kind of look at her as a powerful and happy soul that sits in her chair and sends love to everyone in the world.
If I live to be 90 I can only hope that I touch as many hearts as my Gran has, and I can only hope that I master forgiveness the way she has. This journey of life is like walking a sacred circle and Gran does it with such dignity.
When the party was over and Gran left to go home, I watched her walk away and I realized just how much she means to me. How much she has influenced me in my life.
When I was showing my Tia photos of the party she said that Gran looks like an old Cherokee Medicine Woman… and well I had to laugh… because anyone who has ever been around Gran knows that she is the best medicine in the world….
